How the Board of Governors works
The Board meets six times per year. The meetings are attended by The Board itself (together with the Board secretariat), the Department for Children and Families’ (DCSF) project team, the Teachers TV supplier’s senior management team and representatives of the market research suppliers.
During the meetings the Board:
- Receives and considers reports on progress and developments from the service supplier and the research providers.
- Considers the evidence presented and advises the DCSF on ways that Teachers TV could develop so that it best meets the needs of its audience.
- Considers and advises the DCSF on the draft Educational Outcomes each year.
- Approves the supplier’s annual Statement of Content Policy (SoCP) and advises the DCSF on the progress and actual achievement of the SoCP by the supplier.
- Considers the evidence presented and advises the DCSF on the supplier’s success in the following areas of the Performance Management Framework:
- Delivery against Educational Outcomes
- Content quality
- Quality of strategic vision
- Creativity and innovation.
- Considers how the service is operating, and advises the DCSF on developments required to ensure it follows the best practices of a UK Public Service Broadcaster.
- Considers issues reported by the Teacher TV service supplier that may threaten the editorial independence of the service, and acts as an arbitrator between the DCSF and the supplier over such matters.
A summary of the minutes of each meeting is published on the Board of Governors website. The Governors also publish an Annual Report.
Business between meetings is handled by the Chair drawing on the expertise of individual Governors as appropriate.
